Instagram, which is owned by Meta, is reportedly considering a new method for users to gain early access to its experimental features. According to a recent leak, Instagram might soon launch a feature enabling users to test new tools and functionalities prior to their official rollout. This would mark a notable change from the existing system, where users can only access beta features by joining the Android Beta program.
According to a screenshot shared on Threads by developer Alessandro Paluzzi, the option to join early access might be available in the Settings and activity tab. The screenshot shows a new "early access to features" option as the last choice in the list. If implemented, this would make Instagram more like Google Search Labs and YouTube Experiments, which also allow users to try out new features ahead of time.
In addition to this potential new feature, Paluzzi also revealed that Instagram is planning to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) more deeply into its app. One of the most exciting possibilities is the ability for users to generate themes for their chats using AI. Currently, Instagram offers several chat themes, but the addition of AI-generated themes could provide a more personalized and creative experience.
A similar feature is reportedly under development for WhatsApp, another Meta-owned platform. This feature might allow users to choose from five preset themes, including blue, green, grey, red, and purple. Selecting a theme would change the color and wallpaper of the chat's background, making each conversation feel unique. This thematic customization could enhance user engagement and satisfaction.
Another upcoming feature for Instagram is cross-posting, which would allow users to share content from Instagram to Threads, Meta's microblogging platform. This would streamline the process for users who want to maintain a presence on both platforms. As Threads positions itself as a direct competitor to X (formerly Twitter), this cross-posting capability could be a game-changer, offering users more flexibility in managing their social media content.
In summary, Instagram is gearing up to offer users early access to experimental features, potentially revolutionizing how users interact with the platform. With AI-generated chat themes and cross-posting capabilities also in the works, Instagram continues to innovate and enhance user experience. These new features could provide users with more creative tools and greater integration across Meta's suite of social media platforms.
